Am I missing something, or is it just my poor interpretation of the articles I read in the Telegraph?
I was pleased to hear the city of Dixon will be getting a $300,000 grant (brownfield). The article was in the Thursday, Aug. 31, Telegraph.
It states the city wants to hire engineering and environmental consultants. It would also like to hear from the public by 10 A.M. FRIDAY.
It seems to me the City Council doesn’t really want to hear from the public. Notifying the people of Dixon they have less than 24 hours to render their suggestions of how to use the brownfield grant funds to help move the city forward seems a little disingenuous.
My suggestions to the council members are:
1) Start making decisions with the help of Dixon citizens.
2) Quit spending money foolishly. We voted in council members because we thought being business owners and professionals, you would be able to make important decisions, but it seems all the council does is hire outside people at $30,000-$50,000 a pop to do studies and business plans. It doesn’t show the public or give them confidence the way you spend our money.
3) My final suggestion – I know I missed the Friday deadline, I’m sorry. Spend some of the money and put it toward the swimming pool on the West End. Someone has to realize that it is in the best interest of our young to have someplace to hang out. We need to help the people who are working hard to achieve this. It would be the biggest return on your dollars.
