Taste of Fiesta set for Saturday in Sterling

STERLING – Feel like a fiesta?

Come celebrate Mexican Independence Day from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Taste of Fiesta at Grandon Civic Center on East Fourth Street.

The annual event will feature food, music, art, dance, and business and resource booths.

Folkloric dancers and local musicians will perform. There will be artists, free crafts and activities. Admission is free.

Find the event on Facebook for more information.

The party continues next weekend with the 65th annual Fiesta Days Parade on Sept. 16.

All groups are encouraged to incorporate Hispanic culture into their entries for the parade, which kicks off at 1 p.m. in Rock Falls.

Entries will line up on 10th Street. The parade will travel north on First Avenue in Rock Falls, cross the bridge to Sterling, travel north on Locust Street to Fourth Street and end at Grandon.

There will be food vendors in downtown Sterling and Rock Falls before, during and after the parade.

A vendor fair and performances by Grupo Alegria, Grupo Jalisco, and the Glenview Middle School Mariachi Band from East Moline will follow the parade.
