ROCK FALLS – Perna’s Pizza, an area restaurant staple for nearly 60 years, soon will be on the auction block.
The business at 200 W. Rock Falls Road was owned and operated for many years by Italian-born Angelino and Fedora Perna. After the death of his parents, Guido Perna took over the pizzeria, which was also known for its pasta, sandwiches and loaves of bread.
Management at Perna’s said Guido is retiring, but the business plans to stay open until it is sold.
The public auction, conducted by local auctioneers Dirks and Young, will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 30 at Perna’s. The sale includes all of the furniture and equipment and two one-bedroom apartments above the restaurant.
Two other parcels owned by the family also will be put up for auction that day.
At 11:30 a.m., 13 acres of farmland at McNeil Road, about a quarter-mile north of U.S. Route 30 will be auctioned. Then at 1 p.m., a vacant lot on the corner of Eighth Avenue and U.S. 30 will be made available.
