STERLING – Joseph A. Garcia, 59, of Sterling, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

He was born May 4, 1958, in Sterling, the son of Salvador and Delores (Seidel) Garcia. He attended St. Mary Grade School, and was a 1976 graduate of Sterling High School. Joe married Denise Francque on July 15, 1995, in Sterling. He was employed for 25 years at Dixon Correctional Center as a maintenance craftsman, and then for the past 5 years he worked for DD Homes in Sterling. Joe was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed NASCAR racing. Joe loved life to the fullest. Some of his favorite passions were being outdoors, especially snowmobiling and boating, with his family and friends. And of course, mowing his yard. Joe cherished his bond with his family, and with his friends, whom he always considered his extended family. He will be missed by his crazy dog, “MAXX.”

Survivors include his wife, Denise; his two children, Lacy Garcia Cole and Anthony J. Garcia; his two grandchildren, Brooke and Brayden Cole; his sisters, Barbara Tretteen, Josie (Tom) Gascoigne, Carol (Craig) Stumpf, and Elizabeth (Denis) Perret; his brothers, Michael (Sue) Garcia and Robert Garcia; his mother and father-in-law, Jan and Bev Francque; his sisters-in-law; Michelle (John French) Burns and Danielle (Mike) Lahey; his brothers-in-law; Todd (Melissa) Francque and Ben Francque; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. All those attending the visitation are encouraged to wear Green Bay Packers attire.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling, with the Rev. James R. Keenan, celebrant, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
