STERLING – If you head across the First Avenue Bridge later this week, keep your eyes peeled for a “Lion Fish” and a “Macaroni Turtle.” They’ll be there, hanging around with a “Bear Walking with the Northern Lights.”
The motley menagerie will be waving in the wind on banners hanging on the bridge, courtesy of artwork chosen from among the pieces produced by Woodlawn Arts Academy and other area students for its Student-Teacher Art Exhibit.
The banners will be on display from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the YWCA of the Sauk Valley parking lot, 412 First Ave., during Hot Dog Days, and put up on the bridge later that day.
Some of the artists will be available for a meet-and-greet to talk about their artwork and do live artwork demos and face painting.
Works were chosen by community members during the exhibit, which ran from Feb. 23 to March 9, and the academy partnered with Bridge the Community and Sterling Main Street to bring the pieces to the public.
