MACHESNEY PARK – Francis E. Dettman, 86, of Machesney Park, formerly of Sterling, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at his home.

Francis was born March 23, 1932, to Edwin and Alice (Folsom). He married Ruby Boyle on May 17, 1986, in Sterling. He proudly served in the Marine Corps. He was a machinist, and also served 22 years, from 1966 to 1988, with the Sterling Fire Department, and retired as a captain. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls for many years, and most recently at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Survivors include hie wife, Ruby of Machesney Park; seven daughters, Pat Cassotis of Sterling, Conni Holder of Rock Falls, Sue (Tim) Nimocks of Machesney Park, Rebecca Dettman of Sterling, Carolyn (George) Feldt of South Beloit, Sharon Boyle of Davis, and Skip Dettman of Sterling; one son, Michael (Micki) Dettman of Sterling; two sisters, Janet Smith of St. Petersburg, Virginia, and Rita Olin of Sterling; and one brother, Ricky Dettman of Albany, Illinois.

Special thanks to Marilyn Peak of Rockford for her support during these trying times.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Dettman; and sister, Susan Terry.

A celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 at Bethel Reformed Church, 230 E. 23rd St., Sterling. The Rev. Joshua Holder will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Urban Outreach Mission.
