DIXON – A child-sized village is being built in Dixon as an interactive place for youngsters to play.
Ashley and Tyler Venier, both Dixon natives, plan to open up the play center and party venue My Play Village around the end of October at 1347 N. Galena Ave.
The couple moved back to the city about a year and a half ago from Dallas to raise their twins, Sutton and Sawyer, 2, in a small-town environment.
Ashley, who was a kindergarten teacher for 7 years in Texas, said she always has loved working with children, and she and Tyler, who’s a maintenance specialist in the city’s wastewater department, recognized the need for kid- and family-friendly places.
“Especially with our long winters, there are not a lot of venues for kids to go to, and this will give them a fun, interactive learning center,” she said.
The village will have a grocery store, beauty salon, deli, school, veterinary clinic, construction site, and fire station next to a house on “fire,” and there will be different activities throughout.
Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning, and the village is also meant to give them a sense of community while inspiring creativity and imagination, she said.
The goal is to open during the last week of October, but it’s not set in stone, and the hours and fees will be worked out soon, she said.
