STERLING – Angelo’s Pizzeria raised $16,230 toward breast cancer awareness last year and is hoping to bust that record the second time around.
During October, $1 from every pizza sold at the eatery’s four locations in Sterling, Rock Falls and Dixon will go to CGH Health Foundation’s women’s health program.
“Our goal this year is to beat last year’s donation,” Angelo’s operations manager Michelle Hodge said. “Angelo’s donates to many causes, but this cause is near and dear to our hearts.”
The hospital foundation strives to raise awareness about early detection for breast cancer such as monthly breast exams, getting a mammogram and seeing a medical professional.
“We are thrilled and humbled that Angelo’s has chosen to partner with us in this important cause,” foundation Executive Director Joan Hermes said.
The foundation has provided free mammograms and pap tests for under served women since 1993, but can now provide free screenings to all patients because of a new recent partnership with the CGH Medical Center Diagnostic Imaging Center, Hermes said.
The new partnership should remove any obstacles that might exist for women to seek a mammogram in the CGH five-county service area, she said.
