AMBOY – Joseph E. McGraw, 71, of Amboy, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

He was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Amboy, the son of John and Catherine (Faivre) McGraw. Joe married Susan Speer in Dixon on Jan. 19, 1990. Joe was a deputy for the Lee County Sheriff’s Department prior to his retirement. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Stephanie (Zack) Galvan of Rochelle and Shannon McGraw of Amboy; one son, David McGraw of Amboy; three nephews, John (Alice) McGraw, Matthew Speer and Michael Speer; and two nieces, Katie (Billy) Broeski and Sarah Heyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Nita Nolan and Karen McGraw.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with the funeral at 11 a.m. Monday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, with the Rev. Richard Kramer, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy, with military rites by the Amboy American Legion. 

A memorial has been established.
