Dixon police warn against unlicensed solicitors

DIXON – Police recently cited three people for soliciting door-to-door without permits and are reminding residents that solicitors must all carry a permit to show when asked.

The Dixon Police Department has received numerous calls within the last week about solicitors in Dixon saying they are with Spark Energy, which does not have a permit from the city to solicit.

Julian Acker, 22, of Rockford; British Brown, 26, of Chicago; and Patrick Ciado, 37, of Forth Worth, Texas, each received a citation Feb. 4 for soliciting without permits. Additionally, Acker was charged with driving while license suspended.

All solicitors that are registered with the city must carry a permit. It’s unlawful for any person to go in or on any residence or nonresidential site to solicit after 9 p.m. or before 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday, or at any time Sunday or a holiday recognized by the state of Illinois, unless requested by the owner or occupant.

Call Dixon police at 815-288-4411 for more information or to report illegal solicitors.
