OREGON – The April 3 public meeting to discuss plans to lease the Oregon Coliseum has been canceled.

City officials decided to postpone the meeting until after the April 2 election, when new City Council members will be seated. A new date will be announced later.

At its March 12 meeting, the City Council endorsed a plan to lease the building at the corner of Fourth Street at state Route 2 to the Coliseum Museum of Art, Antiques, and Americana Foundation, a recently formed not-for-profit organization, for $1 per year for 49 years.

Under the terms of the lease, the CMAAA would use of the first and second floors as a facility to promote the arts and the community.

The CMAAA includes representatives from nine governmental, not-for-profit organizations, and community leaders from Oregon who hope to create a multi-purpose cultural center, museum, recording studio, and tourist destination at the Coliseum.

The organizations are the Lawrence Foundation, Oregon School District, Oregon Park District, Oregon Public Library, Serenity Hospice & Home, Chana School, Oregon Depot, Village of Progress, and Ogle County Historical Society.
