Herbert R. Steder

DIXON – Herbert R. Steder, 90, of Dixon, died Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Dixon. He was employed several years at Beier Bakery before becoming owner-operator of Zimmers Service for 9 years. He also worked for Williams Pipe Line for 23 years before retiring in 1991.

Herb was born December 4, 1928 in Amboy the son of Chris and Annie (Durham) Steder. He served in the United States Army 2 years in Alaska during the Korean War, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 12, both of Dixon. Herb was united in marriage to Ethel M. Zentz on June 16, 1960 in Freeport.

Herb is survived by his wife Ethel of Dixon; two sons, Larry (Sandra) Steder of Dixon, Steve (Linda) Steder of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son Dennis; five brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service with the Rev. Joseph O’Donnell, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dixon, officiating. Private family burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Dixon.

Arrangements are being completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
