Norton spins no-hitter for Cougars

Comets top BV on road; Steamers beat rival Fillies

Emma Norton threw a no-hitter
as the Eastland softball team went on the road and beat
Galena 6-0 on Tuesday.

Norton struck out 14 and allowed just two walks, pitching to three over the minimum number of batters.

Erin Henze had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for the Cougars. Gabby Snyder added an RBI.

Newman 11, Bureau Valley 2: Elle Koerner picked up the win in the circle, and also had three singles and an RBI for the Comets in a TRAC East road win over the Storm in Manlius.

Madison Craft also had three singles and an RBI for Newman. Jenna Johnson recorded two singles and two RBIs. Hailey Frank and Josie Rank each drove in two runs, while Mattea Bianchi and Jordan Morthland drove in one apiece.

Bri Boers had a solo home run and a triple to pace BV. Sam Bohm and Morgan Ringle each had two singles, while Darla Kepner drove in a run. Tyra Sayler took the loss in the circle.

Fulton 12, Morrison 2, 5 inn.: Liz Fish doubled, singled twice, drove in three runs and scored three times as the Steamers rolled over the visiting Fillies.

Rylee Leitzen singled twice and drove in four runs for Fulton. Emily Banker and Kylee Sweenie each scored two runs. Ally Curley tossed a three-hitter in the circle.

Grace Steines hit a two-run homer for Morrison.

Mendota 10, Oregon 5: The Hawks dropped a Big Northern road game against the Trojans.

Dakota 6, Amboy 0: The Indians scored four runs in the top of the fourth to beat the Clippers in Amboy.

Bailee Highbarger took the loss in the circle. Alison O’Rourke, Noelle Jones and Arya Stack collected hits, all singles, for Amboy.

Grace Sutherland homered for Dakota, and also struck out 13 in the circle to earn the win.

Durand 10, Milledgeville 0: The Missiles went on the road and were shut out by the Bulldogs in an NUIC East matchup.

Orangeville 23, AFC 4, 4 inn.: The Broncos scored 13 runs in the top of the first in an NUIC East road win over the Raiders.

AFC scored two runs each in the second and third. Tristan Munroe recorded a triple and an RBI for AFC. Camdyn Penick, Karlee Ashbury and Sophie Berkeley drove in a run each, while Maley Fike had a double. Kendall Sanford took the loss in the circle.

West Carroll 11, River Ridge/Scales Mound 0: The Thunder shut out the Wildcats in an NUIC West home win in Thomson.

Soccer

DeKalb 5, Sterling 1: The Golden Warriors dropped a NIB-12 crossover game on the road against the Barbs.

Oregon 4, Rockford Christian 2: The Hawks scored a Big Northern home win versus the Royal Lions.

Katelyn Byerley netted a pair of goals for Oregon. Hannah Donaldson chipped in a goal and an assist. Madisyn Byerley scored, and Leah Watters dished out an assist.

Track & field

Steamers, Comets, Panthers compete at Augie: Fulton finished fourth with 65 points at the 14th Annual Sailer Invitational, hosted by Alleman at Augustana College in Rock Island.

Newman placed fifth with 44 points, and Erie-Prophetstown took seventh with 34 points. The host Pioneers won the meet with 165 points.

Daekota Knott won the triple jump with a top leap of 36-10 1/2 for the Steamers. Kearra Kohrt took the long jump (16-2 1/2), and Chloe Lindeman won the shot put (45-10 1/2).

Kiley Sanders won the 400 with a time of 1:02.59 for Newman. E-P’s Riley Packer took the 800 with a time of 2:30.22.

Dixon wins quad: The Duchesses scored 83 points to beat out LaSalle-Peru (59), Mendota (36) and Peoria Christian (2).

Tara Schielein won the 100 (13.48 seconds), 200 (27.97) and 300 hurdles (51.68). Peyton Book won the 400 (1:05.88), and Taylor Renkes won the 3,200 (13:58.44).

Dixon’s 4x100 relay of Schielein, Madisyn Rubright, Shea Lahey and Madison Wetter took first in 53.22.

Katie Drezen won the high jump, clearing 5-2. Makenzie Welch threw 33-7 to win the shot put.
