IBCA names its coaches of the year
The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association on Monday honored 81 boys high school coaches and 81 girls high school coaches for their work during the 2018-19 season.
Local girls basketball coaches honored included Sterling’s Taylor Jackson,
Rock Falls’ Eric Wolf, Amboy’s Mike McCracken
and Eastland’s Nicole Brinker.
Boys coaches from the area receiving honors included Rock Falls’ Brad Bickett, Dixon’s Chris Harmann, Polo’s Matt Messer and Newman’s Ray Sharp.
Former Dixon coach Jason Mead, now at Waubonsie Valley, was also recognized.
World Cup Night
The Sterling girls soccer team will have World Cup Night on Thursday when the Warriors host Ottawa.
In recognition of the Women’s World Cup this summer in France, the Warriors invite their fans to wear national team jerseys, wave flags and paint their faces in national colors.
World Cup Night kicks off at 6 p.m. at Roscoe Eades Stadium.
Ex-Bear Gould wants out of San Francisco
Robbie Gould might have made his last kick with the 49ers after two seasons.
Gould requested a trade after being given the franchise tag in February and being unable to agree to a multiyear contract.
Veteran RB Stewart retires as a Panther
Running back Jonathan Stewart has announced he is retiring from the NFL.
Stewart, who spent last season with the Giants, signed a 1-day contract Tuesday with the Panthers. Stewart spent 10 seasons in Carolina, and is the franchise’s career leading rusher.
Walton of assault
New Sacramento Kings coach Luke Walton has been accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit by a
former sports reporter.
Kelli Tennant filed the suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, contending Walton assaulted her in a hotel room in Santa Monica while he was an assistant in Golden State.
Walton’s attorney called the allegations “baseless.”
