The Sauk Valley’s own intrepid adventurer, Oregon native Chad Gaston, successfully made it to the highest spot on Earth Wednesday, and now is descending back down to the real world.
Gaston, 39, is one of a team of eight that reached the summit of Mount Everest, 29,035 feet above sea level. He made it back to Base Camp 4, but no word yet on where he might be at the moment.
The 1998 Oregon High School grad, who owns a surf shop in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, with his sister, Lindsey Gaston, 37, will update his blog when his fingers thaw out and he gets a moment to breathe past the exhilaration.
Gaston, son of White Pines Resort President Elizabeth George of Mount Morris, is chronicling his 2-month adventure on his Facebook page, and at frostyoneverest.home.blog.
We bet he’d like some warm wishes from the folks back home, to take the edge off that Himalayan chill.
