Foster grandparents recognized

ROCK FALLS – The Foster Grandparent program of Western Illinois presented five Presidential Achievement Awards on May 3.

Those recognized were Gigi Clifton, volunteer at the Little Red School House in Rock Falls; Linda Guise, Madison Elementary School, Shirley Marsh, Bright Beginnings, both in Dixon; Patti Presthus, Jefferson Elementary School in Princeton; and Diane Stutzke, Franklin Elementary School in Sterling.

Presthus also was honored for 5 years as a Senior Corps member, along with 10-year Senior Corps member LaVaun Ashmore of Milledgeville Elementary School.

A special plaque was awarded to Midge Murphy of Dillon Elementary in Rock Falls, for her 20 years of service.

There were nine first-year Senior Corps members honored for serving the community in the role of mentors, tutors, friends and role models in school-based classrooms.
