SAVANNA – U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services staff have announced a drawing for waterfowl hunting sites in Potter’s Marsh on July 27 at Manny’s Pizza, 211 Main St.

Applications will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the drawing at 1 p.m. The fee is $10; applicants must be 16 or older, apply in person and be present at the drawing.

Winners will select from one of 49 available sites. A $100 non-refundable fee is charged for each applicant who receives a hunt site.

Call the refuge office at 815-273-2732, or stop at 7071 Riverview Road, Thomson, for copies of the regulations.

Go to www.fws.gov/refuge/upper_mississippi_river or call the office for more information on either hunt selection.

Special deer hunts planned in Thomson

Applications for deer hunts at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge’s Lost Mound Unit are available.

All hunters, attendants, and any accompanying individuals must attend a mandatory, two-session safety orientation from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 5 and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 15 at Manny’s Pizza, 211 Main St., Savanna, followed by a visit to the hunt area.

A youth hunt will be Oct. 12-13, which coincides with the Illinois Youth Either Sex Deer Hunt.

A hunt for adults with disabilities will be Nov. 11-12, the weekend before the firearms deer first season. Wheelchair-bound and amputee hunters will receive priority selection for hunt sites. Deer permits are provided by the refuge.

Applications and regulations can be downloaded at fws.gov/refuge/upper_mississippi_river/visit/permits.html or at the refuge office. Call the office for more information.
