Religious freedom is under siege

There are many great people of all faiths in America, as well as kind, considerate individuals who are atheists or agnostics. There is no intention to depict any group in a less favorable light, but to discover the true origins of tolerance so it can be preserved for everyone.

The earliest settlers of this land came in search of religious freedom. Landing on a desolate shoreline, they established a spiritual foundation that has served us ever since. It was the hard work of our people, the freedom they enjoyed, and their faith in God that built this country and made it the envy of the world.

Those who claimed the right of individuals’ choice for themselves finally had to grant it to others.

One of the factors which I think weighed heaviest on the side of unity – the Bible – was the one work of literature that was common to all of them.

Can you imagine a nation born for religious tolerance no longer tolerates religion and the faith that gave birth to tolerance is no longer tolerated?

How did America go from pilgrims seeking freedom to express their Judeo-Christian beliefs to today’s discrimination against those very beliefs in the name of tolerance?
