Orchestra will open season in Sterling

STERLING – The Clinton Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 2019-20 season with some country music – but don’t expect any twang if you go. The orchestra will take its audience on a journey through rural America, with stops along the way in Europe, the Appalachian U.S., and a Czech village in Iowa.

The opening concert for the orchestra’s 66th season will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. today at Centennial Auditorium at Sterling High School, 1608 Fourth Ave.

Included in the lineup, which features rural-themed music, will be folk numbers from eastern Europe by a European composer who migrated to America, a ballet suite by an American composer, and a depiction of the “new world” by a Czech composer teaching in America and visiting Iowa. Conductor Brian Dollinger will lead the 55-piece orchestra.

Tickets – $20 each, free for students, or $10 for each adult with a student – can be purchased at clintonsymphony.org or at the door. Season tickets are $75.

A charter bus from Clinton, sponsored by Community State Bank and the Symphony, will pick up concert-goers in Fulton and Morrison. Call 563-219-8084 to reserve a seat.

Upcoming concerts: Nov. 10, Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa; Dec. 14, Holiday season concert, Clinton High School; Feb. 15, Wellingtons Victory, Morrison High School Auditorium; April 25, Symphonie Espagnole at Clinton High School; June 5, Symphonic Affair, Riverview Park in Clinton; June 7, Outdoor Pops concert in Riverview Park.
