The Dixon volleyball team opened its Big Northern slate with a 26-24, 28-26 win over Winnebago on Thursday night at Lancaster Gym.
Emma Carlson and Brenna Melvin led a balanced Duchesses attack with six kills each, and Carlson also had eight digs for Dixon (5-4, 1-0). Tiuan Tichler chipped in five kills and two blocks, and Taylor Spellman had three kills and two assists. Kaitlynn Pfeiffer (8 assists) and Madeline Gusse (7 assists) spread the wealth from the setter position.
“We had a big lead in the first set and Winnebago came back, but we were able to pull it out,” Dixon coach Bunyan Cocar said. “We played better in the second set, not as many service errors, and we blocked Winnebago well. They’re a little undersized, but they battled all night.”
