Roundup: Duchesses volleyball sweeps Genoa-Kingston

Oregon wins in Stillman Valley; Comets beat St. Bede at home

The Dixon volleyball team took a two-set win over Genoa-Kingston on Tuesday at Lancaster Gymnasium, beating the Cogs 25-15, 25-17 to improve to 4-1 in Big Northern Conference play, 12-11 overall.

Dixon’s Emma Carlson had 10 kills and 10 digs. Brenna Melvin had five kills, three blocks, six digs and two aces. Tiana Tichler had three kills and three blocks. Madeline Gusse and Kaitlynn Pfeiffer each had eight assists.

Oregon def. Stillman Valley 25-16, 25-22: Oregon held off the Cardinals in the second set to win at Stillman.

The Hawks’ Alice Stenico had six kills and five aces. Jenae Bothe had five kills and three blocks. Ella Martin added 14 assists, two kills and seven digs.

Newman def. St. Bede 25-16, 25-12: Aidan Brown spiked 13 kills to lead the Comets past the Bruins in a Three Rivers East match in Sterling.

Brown also had four digs and two aces, and Kiley Sanders added six kills, three digs, two assists and an ace for Newman (20-3, 9-0). Macaire Brown and Shae McNeill each dished 10 assists, with Brown adding 11 digs and two kills and McNeil chipping in three digs. Josie Rank had a kill, two blocks, two aces and two digs, and Erin Kelly added eight digs, two aces and an assist.

Erie-Prophetstown def. Bureau Valley 25-18, 9-25, 25-20: The Panthers rebounded from a rough second set to win at Manlius.

Ella Heyvaert, Baylee Anderson and Jasmine Nickerson each had four aces for the Panthers. Emily Brooks added seven kills, with Heyvaert adding six. Anderson had 16 assists, and Brooks had nine digs.

Lauren Wirth had 17 assists for the Storm. Caroline Konneck served four aces and added six kills and two digs. Makanna Sabin had 11 digs and an ace. Morgan Ringle had five aces.

Orion def. Fulton 25-20, 25-19: The Steamers fell on the road in two sets.

Fulton’s Emily Schipper had eight kills and 15 digs. Maddie Hodge had seven kills and four digs. Kylie Collachia had 16 assists and eight digs. Lillianna Eagle had three blocks.

Aquin def. Amboy 25-20, 25-14: The Clippers lost in two sets at home.

Gabby Jones led Amboy with 16 assists. Mallory Powers and Kyleigh Donna each had five kills. Eden Lindenmeyer had nine digs, with Powers adding seven.

Milledgeville def. AFC 25-15, 25-18: The Missiles won an NUIC match in Ashton.

Callie Shrimplin had 10 digs for the Raiders. Camdyn Penick had 11 assists. Tristan Munroe had five kills, with Brittney Mundell adding four.

Lena-Winslow def. Eastland 25-17, 25-19: The Cougars lost in two sets in an NUIC West match in Lena.

Karlie Krogman led Eastland (11-11, 6-4) with six kills, and Erin Henze added 14 assists and 10 digs.

Faith Christian def. Rockford Fire 25-16, 25-14: The Falcons got 12 assists and four aces from Chrissy Royer to improve to 21-2 for the season.

Naomi Barrett had nine kills, four blocks and 11 digs. Meghan Van Buren had seven kills and nine digs.

College volleyball

Sauk Valley def. Carl Sandberg 17-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-16: The Skyhawks rebounded from a first-set loss to beat Carl Sandberg to give both teams a 6-1 record in the Arrowhead Conference.

Hannah Wilson had 20 kills and four kill-blocks. Lexi Greve had 15 kills. Jaida Dean had 10 kills and eight digs. Juliana Rotella had four kills and 17 digs. Aleah Wight had 24 digs. Madison Craft had 27 assists, and Emily Shrimplin added 19.

Girls swimming

Byron 109.5, Sterling 57.5: Dixon sophomore Laci Long won the diving competition to help the Byron-co-op girls swim team top the visiting Water Warriors

Long won the diving competition for the Tigers with 204.80 points.

Oregon sophomore Avery Clark teamed up with Hailey Groharing, Audrey Kilmer and Jenna Hale to win the medley relay. Clark won the breaststroke in 1:15.03, and she also finished second behind Groharing in the individual medley.

Oregon freshman Emily Marshall teamed up with Hale, Groharing and Kate Schilling to win the 200 freestyle relay. Marshall, Schilling, Kilmer and Clark won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.30.

Rock Falls senior Lauren Moeller won the 100 freestyle in a time of 56.90 seconds for the Warriors.

Soccer

Oregon 6, Rockford Lutheran 2: The Hawks got a hat trick from Josh Sitze to beat the Crusaders.

Alan Acosta had a goal and an assist. Eli Rufer and Grant Cermak added goals. Alvaro Soler and Owen Ketter added assists.

Tennis

Alleman 6, Sterling 3: The Golden Warriors lost in Western Big 6 play on the road.

Moira Roddy got Sterling’s lone singles win, beating Abby Miller 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 at No. 6.

In doubles, Abby Aitken and Saryn Seeley won at No. 1 6-3, 6-1. Olivia Pitkin and Anjelina Ramos won at No. 3 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Alleman pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles where Miller and Alexis Engels beat Roddy and Anna Meltzer 6-2, 6-7, 11-9.
