ELDENA – Wayne L. Fields, 93, of Eldena, passed away Friday, January 10, 2020, at Morningside of Sterling in Sterling, IL. He worked on the pipeline at Arco Pipe Line for 18 years prior to his retirement.

Wayne was born December 5, 1926, at home in Miami County, KS, the son of Everett and Gertie (White) Fields. He married Lola F. Johnson on August 22, 1948, in Kansas. Wayne served in the Merchant Marines. He enjoyed taking trips, fishing, and renovating homes. Wayne was a great woodworker and excellent ditch digger. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lola F. Fields of Eldena; one son, Roger (Cindy) Fields; two daughters, Evelyn (Ronald) Bender, and Krista Gibson all of Eldena; one sister, Naomie Castleberry of Grantville, KS; eight grandchildren, Brian Fields, Bradley Fields, Brenda (Jestun) Gatz, Steven (Anna) Bender, Kimberly (Cory) Bennett, Kari Bender, Calvin Gibson, Kevin Gibson; eight great-grandchildren, Alex Fields, Brenna Fields, Makaylee Gatz, Brayton Gatz, Emilie Bender, Evan Bender, William Bennett, Joel Bender; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Birdean Hayworth, Inez Beets, and Shirley McCoach.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Ltd., Dixon, IL with son-in-law, Ronald Bender, officiating. Full military honors to follow the service. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Memorials may be directed to Morningside of Sterling or Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
