Getting ready for the first day of an improved school at Dixon High
The halls are alive with the sound of construction at Dixon High School, where crews are busy working on a multi-million-dollar renovation at the nearly 90-year-old building. Work is coming down to the wire, as the first day of school fast approaches, but the plan is to have enough of the project wrapped up to welcome students back Aug. 20. The long list of improvements is part of ongoing efforts to make sure the high school gets a good grade when it comes to being up to code and meeting its health/life safety requirements. Top to bottom, inside and out, the district has spent nearly $20 million so far on a geothermal heating and cooling system, restoring exterior masonry, replacing windows, upgrading electrical and plumbing, installing drop-tile ceiling, removing asbestos, installing floors, upgrading intercoms, remodeling offices, and adding a secure vestibule. The project started about a year ago, will take 2 more years to finish, and will cost upward of $30 million.
