Piece movement: Chess players make their moves at Sterling tournament
There was plenty of skill across the boards Saturday as players mapped out their moves during the Sterling Invitational Chess Championship at Sterling High School. Students from elementary through high school, and adults, faced off in their respective divisions to push their pawns, do battle with their bishops, and try to chalk up some “checkmates” against their opponents. Sterling High School’s team fought off 13 other teams to win the championship. Sterling was the only 4-0 team at the end of the tournament, beating out Plano, Huntley, Rockford Auburn, and Kaneland.
