While other parts of the Midwest took a thumping from the winter storm system earlier Sunday, the Sauk Valley was spared the worst of it until later in the afternoon – just long enough for people like Del Miller to get some Christmas decorations put up at his Dixon home on North Hennepin Avenue, near John Dixon Park. Miller and his wife have been showing their Christmas spirit for more than 20 years, and try to add a little something new every year. Much of the Midwest went from Black Friday to White Sunday over the weekend, when a storm system stomped across a large part of the region, bringing rain, sleet and snow. After Sunday's drubbing from Mother Nature, the rest of the week should remain comparatively calm, but cold. There’s no snow in the forecast until some flurries on Saturday, but highs won’t get very high; they’ll hover from the low-20s to the mid-30s throughout the week.
