Eagle-eyed bird watchers spotted majestic bald eagles flying over the Mississippi River Saturday. Spotting the birds was difficult due to above average temperatures that has prevented the river from freezing. The 35th annual Bald Eagle Watch is held at Lock and Dam 13 in Fulton. Bald eagles – a national symbol – feed and nest at the dam each winter. When the temperatures plummet the lock and dam prevents the river from freezing solid which provides the birds with access to open water to fish.
