I'm looking forward to any event that includes the word "spring." I can't wait for any reason to walk around the city's riverfronts and downtowns with the sun warming my face, sans down coat, gloves and boots.
In Sterling, Main Street is planning another Sip into Spring cocktail walk in the downtown. The event is set for April 25 and details should be coming soon. Armed with sampling glass and tasting guide, it's a fun way to support local businesses, as well as the other projects organized by Sterling Main Street. After sipping your way through the downtown, everyone will get together at a destination to be named later for food, prizes and fun.
Also in Sterling, registration information should be out soon on this spring's downtown Car Show. The event will be May 5, in the municipal and private parking lots near the intersection of Second Avenue and East Second Street. Registration starts at 8 a.m., judging will be done at noon, and the event wraps up at 3 p.m.
In Rock Falls, Summer Splash, as usual, is likely to bring a big crowd to the riverfront on June 21 and 22. This is a great family event, with plenty to do for all ages. There will be games for the kids, a wild game cookout, arts and crafts and live entertainment. The weekend comes to be big close with the fireworks at dusk on Saturday.
