Ducks might flock to water, but ducklings trying to find water in a storm sewer became a tale some humans got to share Tuesday. The sight of a duck by a sewer grate caught the eyes of neighborhood residents near Fourth Avenue and Hubbell Drive in Dixon. When they got closer they heard a distinctive “quack, quack, quack.” Upon investigating the sound, the young flock was discovered to have fallen through the grate. Brad Huffman jumped into action, and moved the grate off the drain. He began coaxing the 11 ducklings out of the pipe and lifted them to safety. As the ducks were removed, the flock began waddling off across Fourth Avenue before the final duckling was rescued. The last duck was reunited with their relatives a couple blocks away.
