Keeping it clean: Volunteers haul trash from the Rock
Interesting finds gave volunteers and members of the Rock River Development Authority something to talk about while working during the annual Rock River Cleanup Saturday morning in Sterling and Rock Falls. Sarah and David Bingman of Dixon were out in a boat and hauled in an old propeller among their other interesting finds. "You get a little aggravated at people for how they treat the river," said Sarah, "but it feels good to get out and clean it up." Over at the docks Nicole Arduini, 20, of Rock Falls, hoists a toy Tonka truck, caked with mud. But it was not just the interesting items being plucked from the river. The volunteers scour the river for any type of trash from bottles and fishing line to the large and obscure.
