3 Things To Know About Occupational Therapy at Morrison Community Hospital

SPONSORED

Occupational therapy focuses on rehabilitation and adaptation for patients in a health care setting. At Morrison Community Hospital (MCH), occupational therapists work with people of all ages, including children, who are limited by physical, developmental, social, or emotional problems and need specific types of assistance to perform basic tasks including self-care, work, and play activities. Here are 3 things to know about occupational therapy at MCH:

1. Occupational therapy (OT) is a rehabilitation science that helps an individual who has sustained an injury, has an illness, or has a developmental or mental health disorder so they can perform important daily activities at the highest level of independence possible. Morrison Community Hospital provides occupational therapy as both out-patient and in-patient services.

2. MCH's Occupational Therapy Department provides training in self-care and home management. "Our OT Department can perform a home assessment to assist in making a patient's living environment as safe as possible," said Mick Welding, Marketing Director for MCH. "We specialize in shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand injuries. Our occupational therapists perform functional capacity evaluations and offer work conditioning to assist patients in returning to work after an injury. They also assist physicians by providing wheelchair assessments."

3. There are many reasons to choose MCH's occupational therapy services. "The full-time OT staff at MCH has almost 40 years of experience between them," added Welding. "Joy Johnson, OTR/L, has been with MCH for 14 years. She specializes in upper extremity therapy, functional capacity evaluations, work conditioning, and wheelchair assessments. Dan Howard, OTR/L, has been with MCH for 10 years and specializes in stroke and other neurological disorder rehabilitation. Joy and Dan, along with the rest of the OT staff, exemplify MCH's mission to provide quality, compassionate health care to the communities we serve, focusing on personalized care."
