WELLS, Minn. – Richard Gene Winstead, age 79, of Wells, MN, formerly of Clinton, IL, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, surrounded by family at his daughter’s home in Walters, MN.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2019, from noon to 3 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, MN. Interment will be in Rice Lake Cemetery-Foster Township, Faribault County, MN.

Richard Gene was born October 5, 1939, the son of Clyde and Hallie (Cobb) Winstead in Clinton, IL. He was united in marriage to Shirley Louise Rhodes, February 14, 1960, in Dixon. Dick owned Winstead’s Pallet Salvage in Sterling, and worked at Northwest Steel and Wire. Dick loved to invest in real estate. He also enjoyed coon hunting, thoroughbred horse racing and pigeon racing. In 2015 Dick and Shirley moved to Wells, MN, to be closer to family.
Dick is survived by his children, Steven Winstead of Wells MN, Anthony (Lisa) Winstead of Dixon, Daniel Winstead and Christina (Steven) Hargis of Wells, MN; daughter-in-law, Tammy Winstead of Wells, MN; 11 grandchildren, Benjamin Winstead, Cody (Laura) Winstead, Caleb (Kymberly) Winstead, Nicole Winstead, Mitchell Winstead, Taylor Winstead, Sherilyn (Travis) Corwell, Shannon Winstead, Dylan Winstead, Isiah Hargis (Samantha Lampman) and Sidney Hargis (Melinda Lopez); 12 great-grandchildren, Brody, Bryce, Brantely, Cheyenne, Max, Royce and baby girl Hargis on the way; constant companion, his Jack Russel Terrier, Buster; brothers, Clyde (Ruth) Winstead of Chipley, FL, and Tommy Winstead of Clinton, IL; along with many nieces, nephews and their families and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley (2017); and son, Michael (2018).
