The Lincoln Learning Center in Sterling hosted the first day of a 2-day anniversary celebration Friday for an industry that helped forge a community’s future: Northwestern Steel and Wire. The event celebrates the first spool of barb wire to roll out of Washington Dillon’s Northwestern Barb Wire Co. 140 years ago. The event features displays of barb wire and barb wire machines, photos, and other items showcasing the mill’s history. Former and retired employees also are encouraged to attend and share their mill. The celebration continues today, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lincoln Learning Center, 607 E. Third St.
