Dixon High School October Student of the Month: Grace Wadsworth

Grace Wadsworth, 17, of Dixon is Dixon High School’s October Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Jonathan and Kendra Wadsworth, and she has two brothers, Christopher and Aaron, and two sisters, Kate and Megan.

Favorite class: Psychology. I love learning about people and psychology.

Least-favorite class: Gym.

Favorite teacher: Ryan Hoffman made learning math bearable.

If you could create any new class at your school, what would be be? I would like to add a drama class if I could. I love to have a class dedicated to theater and acting.

School activities in which you participate: Fall play, spring musical, and group interpretation.

Civic, church, or other volunteer activities in which you participate: First United Methodist Church technology team; Penguin Project, a theatre program for kids with special needs; and Woodlawn Arts Academy theatre productions

How would you describe your group of friends? They are a bunch of theatre kids who somehow click without really having anything outside of acting in common.

What will you do after high school? I am not sure what college I want to go to, but I want to study psychology and get a job as a child psychologist.

What is something you learned in high school that you think you’ll never use? I will probably never use any chemistry, because my profession will not involve it.

If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be? I wish I could find a way to fix the traffic jam under the first floor clock by the cafeteria. It’s really frustrating.

What does it take to be a successful high school student? You need a good work ethic and an interest in what you are learning.

What do you do in your free time? Usually I’m at a theater rehearsal, but when I’m not, I’m babysitting my siblings, watching Netflix, memorizing lines and blocking for theatre or playing with our new kittens.

What’s one thing in your life you can’t do without? I can’t live without theater. I spend all my time there and I love it so much. I have met amazing people.

What kind of music are you listening to? I listen to show tunes. I love Broadway musicals.

What scares you? I am afraid of growing up. Adult life seems terrifying.

If you could try any job for the day, what would it be? I would love to work on Broadway for a day. Any job: actress, crew member, stage manager or director. The experience would be very educational.

If you could go anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? I would go to New York. I’m not much of a traveler, but I would love to go to Broadway and see as many shows as possible.

What is your favorite childhood memory? Holding my siblings when they were born. I have four younger siblings, and I have distinct memories of all of them as babies.

What is the best way to cheer you up? A hug, if I am in the right mood. If not, take me to rehearsal. Even if rehearsal is loud and stressful, I will be happier just being in a theater.

What is your life’s philosophy? The quote that I live by is “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none,” from William Shakespeare.
