A small flock of geese swim through the autumn reflective waters of the Rock River Tuesday afternoon. The sun peeked out of the clouds later in the day, lighting up the colorful trees of Lowell Park. Wednesday's forecast calls for a chance of light snow possibly mixed with rain in the morning, then it flip-flops to light rain possibly mixed with snow in the afternoon, but little or no snow accumulation either way. The fun comes after midnight, though, when about 2 inches of snow is expected to fall. Halloween chills also are likely, as more snow is in the forecast Thursday along with gusty north winds. Temps all three days won't crack 40, the National Weather Service says. Sterling and Rock Falls already have adjusted their trick-or-treating hours, moving them from Thursday to Saturday. Other towns may do the same, so parents, keep your knees bent. For the Halloween deets, turn to page A5.
